Chris is accompanied by the alluring Sheva Alomar, a stunning Westernized African woman whose expertise in bio-weapons and athletic prowess make her the perfect partner for Chris as they fight through diseased African villages, stop a looming global bioterror deal, and more.

The first thing that hits you, even before the bloodthirsty residents, are the gorgeous and bloody visuals. The next-gen refresh has done wonders for the franchise, bringing sharp, beautiful graphics and vivid lighting that make for a completely new, haunting world.

As for gameplay, this is Resident Evil but not as we know it. The chill and creepiness has been replaced by speed and stress as the franchise shifts from survival horror to bombastic action. The gameplay is fairly standard, over-the-shoulder camera and you have to stand still to shoot enemies. There are numerous weapons the player can purchase or find around the map, as well as the ability to upgrade them into monster-slaying beasts.

Resident Evil 5 is designed for co-op play as Chris and Sheva blast and banter their way through the undead together, watching each other’s backs and assisting one another.

The AI alternative is predictably less rewarding but still less frustrating than other games when Sheva’s AI is a helpful teammate for healing, aiding, and supporting you.

Overall, RE5 is a pretty successful part of the franchise. The game offers a good playing experience with an engaging storyline despite few traditional horror elements.
