The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic survival horror game brought to us by the studio that created the Uncharted series. The creative director for this game is different from Uncharted, but you can still tell it’s the same studio that made Uncharted. In The Last of Us, it’s been 20 years since civilization collapsed due to a parasitic fungus that turns people into strange, zombie-like creatures – not exactly the undead, but zombie-like enough for me to call them zombies. The game world is full of dangers, but there are still quarantine zones to keep people inside safe. You don’t get the sense that the entire government has collapsed; there’s still a presence of authority in the US at least, but for the most part, things are very bad. Joel, the character you control, has to escort a 14-year-old girl named Ellie across a post-apocalyptic America. From there, we get an amazing game.
