Released in 2011 on the PS3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 came out over a decade after the original Tekken Tag Tournament HD, but largely kept the same premise. Imagine the fighting of Tekken mixed with tag team wrestling… that’s pretty much what this game brings to the table.

Now, you can play solo, but this game is really all about team-based fighting, and that’s reflected in its new Tag Assault system. If you knock an opponent into the air and then tag in your partner before they hit the ground, you can perform a beautiful double team attack.

Because the character roster is so massive, it’s a lot of fun to experiment with different pairings and see what kind of moves you can pull off. Of course, “fun” doesn’t always mean “easy.” That’s where the Fight Lab comes in. It’s kind of like an advanced tutorial that lets you try out each character’s moves and learn all the nuances. It doesn’t really teach you anything, so it’s not super helpful for newcomers who really need it. However, along with the Fight Lab is a wealth of options that ensure you’re never short on ways to play.

Offline alone has arcade mode, versus mode, survival mode… not to mention the multiplayer options. You can play online or play with up to four friends locally, which is awesome. Fan favorites in Tekken have always been its humor, how ridiculous its characters are, and it’s all here. With Tag Tournament, now you can amplify that absurdity by pairing a panda and a grizzly bear or a scientist with a leather-clad dominatrix. And when you combine that with the great gameplay and all the content… that’s what makes Tekken Tag Tournament 2 such a blast.

Over 10 years after its initial release on the PS3, you now have the chance to experience this fantastic game once again thanks to emulators.
