Dead or Alive 5 ROM Description
If you’re a fan of the fighting game genre, and especially the Dead or Alive series, then get your wallets ready because this is another PS3 ROMs you’ll want to have in your library.
Superb Graphics Quality
The visuals and presentation in Dead or Alive 5 are fantastic. The character models in the game were some of the best looking at the time of its release on the PS3. The fighters move beautifully, getting dirty and even visibly sweating through their clothes. The facial features are gorgeous. Team Ninja portrays each character’s personality through the way they fight. Lisa is full of swagger, while Tina has a cocky and playful style. The environments are vast, multi-tiered, and full of destruction. Battles take players through walls, off cliffs, and down steep inclines. The stages are constantly changing and evolving as the fight progresses.
Impressive Sound Effects
Dead or Alive 5 has some of the most impactful sound effects. Punches and kicks sound weighty, throws sound like bones are being crunched, and the characters sound very much alive. “Let’s Go!” The music might not be the most memorable, but the soundtrack definitely adds to the tension and drama of each fight. The environmental sounds in the game are also truly a standout. The sounds of war in “The Hot Zone” stage are excellent, and the hustle and bustle of the “New York Street” stage makes you feel like you’re actually there. The voice acting for the characters is surprisingly good, considering there’s quite a bit of dialogue in the game outside of the grunts and groans in the actual fights, which is a big plus.
Deeply Built Gameplay Mechanics
There is a lot to do in Dead or Alive 5, but first, let’s talk a little about the fighting mechanics. Dead or Alive 5 uses a four-button system: Punch, Kick, Hold, and Throw. Gameplay revolves around a triangle system: Strikes (punches and kicks) beat Throws, Throws beat Holds (or counters), and Holds beat Strikes. You can also sidestep and dash for more agile movement.
The move lists in Dead or Alive 5 are actually quite large, contrary to what many might think. Brad Wong has over 180 moves. However, don’t let this intimidate you, as the game is very easy to pick up and play, with Dead or Alive often being called a beginner-friendly fighter due to its “button-mashing” gameplay. However, there is a lot to learn if you want to delve deeper.
All the standard game modes are here: Arcade mode with eight fights for single characters and five fights for Tag Team lineups; Versus mode; Time Attack and Survival modes for those who want to chase high scores; a detailed Training mode with a command list to instantly learn characters; Online mode with player lobbies and ranked matches; Extras such as replay viewing of downloaded matches and CPU battles, where you can use a free camera to take action shots and review later or simply to admire the girls; full player statistics tracking; and tons of unlockable titles, most of which are earned by playing through the surprisingly lengthy 3-hour Story mode.
Lots of Exciting Content to Unlock
Tons of unlockable costumes (around 4 to 5 per character), stages, and guest character appearances will keep you busy for a long time. The gameplay in Dead or Alive 5, while simple in nature, can become deep and rewarding if you want it to. The sheer amount of unlockable content reminds me of the good old days when we had to work to earn everything.
