Star Fox 64 3D ROM Description

Nintendo brought Fox McLoud, Falco, Peppy, and Slippy back for the new generation Nintendo 3DS console with the release of Star Fox 64 3D in 2011. The most obvious difference is that Nintendo has upgraded the game’s graphics in a huge way, using all the modern visual techniques but still retaining the nostalgic feel and classic art style of the original. The results are truly stunning, even though this is not the Star Fox game of the previous generation.

The game has three modes: Main mode, battle, and challenge. The single-player campaign is almost identical to the original, with minor changes. Instead of having it all displayed on one screen like the N64 version, Nintendo puts the action on the top screen on top of the health bar and missions, while the bottom screen is used for pilot chat and other touch functions. The lower screen also displays menus and destination selections on the world map.

Battle mode is the multiplayer part of the game with three battle types: survival, points, and time. Star Fox now allows you to use items to make battles more interesting. Multiplayer can also be played with up to 3 friends, but there is no online play.

Challenge mode allows you to replay any unlocked level for a chance to earn medals. The gameplay in this mode is almost identical to the original.

In some missions, the player can choose a different path by completing specific objectives. This increases replay value as you can complete a level in many different ways.

Star Fox 3D has served its purpose well. Like Ocarina of Time 3D, it improves on the quality of the original, retains the nostalgic feel, upgrades the graphics, and, most importantly, creates a fun, easy-to-play game for your handheld entertainment needs. Currently, you can download the game’s CIA file and play it for free on the emulator.
