Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call is a music game that requires you to tap and slide your hands in time to Final Fantasy music. There are three styles of music: battle music, which is usually faster-paced in Final Fantasy battles; travel music, which is more on-screen and relaxing; and extremely rare, marine music for Final Fantasy moments. All three are fun, and you can choose three difficulty levels: basic, hard, and extremely hard.

Curtain Call’s plot is very brief. There are two gods, Cosmos and Chaos, and the space between the two is called Rhythm. Inside Rhythm, there is a crystal that controls music, and Chaos decides to become the bad guy by breaking that thing. The only way to solve it is to play through more than 220 songs from nearly every Final Fantasy version, going on crazy quests to accumulate Rhythmia—the energy that restores balance to the crystal.

The gameplay is almost identical to the original. You choose four characters from the Final Fantasy character pool, equip items or skills, and match the corresponding notes in each character’s circle.

As mentioned, Curtain Call features over 200 songs from every Final Fantasy game, some spin-offs, and even movies. The soundtrack is amazing and makes the game fun to play. There’s even DLC for other games like The World Ends With You and Xenogears. Visually, the game looks good, and the cute chibi art style suits it, even though it didn’t impress me. Still, my squad of Cloud, Lightning, and two versions of Terra look super cute.

If you’re looking for a fun music game with some great Final Fantasy music to play, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call is definitely the first choice. Even if you don’t play Final Fantasy and just want to enjoy the music, it’s still great on the 3DS and will keep you coming back to it repeatedly.
