Final Fantasy X-2 ROM Description
Final Fantasy 10-2 begins right after the ending of Final Fantasy 10. The story starts about 2 years after the defeat of Sin in the first game. This time, Yuna is the main character. She joins a group called the Gullwings which is a trio of sphere hunters. You may remember spheres in Final Fantasy 10 were little spherical video recording devices that people used to capture moments of history. After Sin’s defeat, everybody is going around Spira looking for these spheres to reconstruct the history of the land.
The Gullwings are the premier sphere-hunting group in Spira, consisting of Yuna, Rikku from the previous game, and Paine, a tough new female warrior. You start the game on the Celsius, the Gullwings’ giant airship, and you basically have access to all the areas right from the beginning. You can go to almost anywhere seen in Final Fantasy 10.
During their travels, the Gullwings find a particular sphere with suspicious images of a character strikingly like Tidus from Final Fantasy 10. This of course intrigues Yuna and they embark on a quest to investigate the sphere while taking care of their other duties.
The combat in Final Fantasy 10-2 is quite fast-paced. The game uses the Active Time Battle system from previous titles. This means monsters can attack continuously while you are choosing commands. FF10-2 really takes ATB to a new level because everything is so fast-paced that you have to hurry to keep up with the monsters.
The game is extremely nonlinear, divided into 5 chapters and you can go to almost any location at any time in each chapter. Some story-related missions are required but about 80% are optional. Some optional missions contain important story conversations while others are just minigames.
FF10-2 also uses the job system you may recognize from Final Fantasy 5 or Final Fantasy Tactics. In this game, you access jobs through dress spheres, special spheres that give you new character classes. All 3 female characters can use any dressphere any time so you can have 3 black mages or 3 dark knights at once if you want.
Overall, Final Fantasy 10-2 is a pretty solid and entertaining RPG. You have a lot to do, a lot of freedom in your choices.
