Final Fantasy X ROM Description
Final Fantasy X revolves around the story of Tidus, a handsome and talented blitzball player who is suddenly swept into chaos when his home city of Zanarkand is destroyed. Tidus and Auron fight monsters, and things go terribly wrong. Auron takes Tidus to Sin, and Tidus is no longer in a familiar place but in a temple, a new world called Spira.
Throughout the game, you travel through beautifully designed locations and meet characters who will join your fighting party. First meeting Riku on the ship, then Wakka, one of my favorite characters for his humorous personality.
FF10 plays like any other RPG in the series. You start with Tidus and gradually gain additional allies with different skills to join in battle. We see familiar characters return, like Lulu, who specializes in black magic, Yuna, who summons eons, etc. Battles can surprise you with random encounters or be easy to breeze through if you use the right tactics. The game provides some new features compared to previous installments, like being able to switch characters with L1, using Overdrives, and bringing smooth gameplay.
The game holds up well graphically over time despite the cinematics taking a lot of production. In 2001, when the game was released, most of the gameplay featured standard PS2 models, but the cinematic cutscenes had beautifully detailed character models and textures. Even today, they still maintain amazing quality. The developers used an upgraded version of facial motion capture technology, which is one reason why I greatly admire the production of this game.
FF10 was also the first in the series to use voice acting for most of the dialogue scenes, bringing more life into the gameplay experience.
FF10 is really difficult to summarize because it is a masterpiece down to every detail. It is a gem waiting to unfold like a Chocobo breaking out of its shell.
