Burnout is a racing game developed by Criterion Games, published by Acclaim Entertainment, and launched on PS2, Xbox, and GameCube in November 2001. It is the first title in a top-rated franchise. This first version received many positive reviews.

As a racing game, Burnout has all the usual modes, such as single racing and time attack, but the main focus is the championship mode, where you compete in a series of races. You aim to finish a little higher each round to continue unlocking new races.

In typical Burnout style, races take place on crowded city streets. You’ll have to weave between vehicles and outrun your opponents as you lick around a fictional urban area. The driving mechanics are perfect for a great playing experience.

Not only does collision increase the distance between you and the racers, but it also reduces the Burnout bar. You can finish an entire race without the support you need to get ahead of your competitors. The time limit you have to race makes the game more difficult because you will fail if you do not finish in the position required by the game.

Burnout on PS2 looks beautiful, has good controls, and is very competitive. Sometimes, it feels like the game is working against you and everything as the races get more complex, but if you’re up for the challenge and patient, you’ll enjoy it.
