RAGE ROM Description

RAGE for PS3 is set roughly 100 years after a catastrophic asteroid hits the earth. Your unnamed protagonist awakens from cryogenic sleep to a world populated with survivors, bandits, and mutants, all fighting each other for control of the wasteland. It is refreshing to see the game avoid the familiar nuclear holocaust or zombie apocalypse tropes. They also managed to avoid the easy trap of creating a bleak world where everyone wears dirty rags.

Underneath the slightly awkward narrative is a solid and fun shooter foundation. The weapons aren’t too flashy, but the ability to purchase upgraded ammo by selling loot adds variety to their use and gives the gameplay an RPG feel. The loot can also be used to build tools to aid you in battle, like sentry bots or explosive RC cars. RAGE also has some enjoyable minigames like Five Finger Fillet or a fully functioning collectible card game. The game has some pretty interesting side quests that can all be completed within half an hour.

Much of the gameplay involves accepting quests from a hub city and then driving to linear but very well-designed FPS levels. You make your way to the end, grab an object or flip a switch, then shortcut back to the hub city for the next quest. There is also a multiplayer mode with online racing and co-op missions unrelated to the plot.
