Hotline Miami is a bloody ballet about brutal murders under the influence of cocaine. Most games make us feel that violence is necessary and right. You are the main character, who has the ability to kill bad guys, and the violence you enforce is necessary. But Hotline Miami doesn’t do that. It doesn’t try to justify violence but makes players feel pleasure in it.

The plot of Hotline Miami encapsulates the entire experience. The main content revolves around a simple mystery: Why did I kill everyone? The answer lies in finding out who was behind the phone line and how much of this surreal experience was real. The plot offers a ray of hope throughout the bloody prison corridors and takes the game’s brutality to a new level.

Hotline Miami is developed by Dennaton Games, a Swedish duo previously known only for small projects. The first thing you will notice in the game is the vibrant 1980s-style visual style thanks to the contrast between neon colors creating a very impressive art style. It creates an uncomfortable contradiction, similar to a murderous cartoon character. And the game’s soundtrack is fucking amazing. The music is not only nostalgic for the 1980s but also fits the gameplay perfectly. You’ll find yourself wanting to bob your head to the music as you kill someone.
