Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth offers a diverse level of customization that allows you to set your team in many ways. You have the ability to create multiple teammates of different races and character classes. It should be noted that each unit has two different skills: race skills and character class skills. Race skills are commonly used for alliance skills in combat or terrain abilities. Examples of alliance skills are the ability to attack twice in a turn, increase team strength, and more. Examples of field skills are fishing, logging, mining, or collecting more materials. So, having a racially diverse team is very beneficial to the results in the Dungeons.

As you explore Aedra, your team of five people will encounter many things on their journey: random monsters, powerful monsters (FOEs), puzzles, and adventure logs. Random battles are standard battles in the game. With a variety of classes in the game, fighting is exciting and many challenging battles as you progress. As you go deeper into Aedra, you will encounter many puzzles and powerful monsters (FOEs) on certain levels. FOEs exist to enhance your adventure experience.

In terms of graphics, Etrian Odyssey 5 is pretty good. Each stratum has its own attraction, when you explore them. While the monster designs are nothing special, there are quite a few unique boss battles and with 3DS hardware, the game is still very nice.
