Step into the shoes of professional assassin Harman Smith, whose mind is split into 7 personalities, each with its own identity. Join the fight against the all-powerful boss of the criminal world, as well as the epidemic of the “Heaven Smile” virus.
Killer 7 is a very unconventional game with gameplay, controls, and visuals that are atypical for the genre (the game uses cel-shading). The protagonist can transform into one of his alter egos, each of which has its own strengths (and weaknesses) as well as special abilities (dual wielding, accuracy, speed, using fire and explosives, etc.). The key is to cleverly utilize each character at the right moment. Movement is in the third-person view, while shooting is in the first-person. When shooting, the key point is hitting the enemies’ special weak spots (which can be anywhere) for instant kills, chaining these hits together for bonuses and additional capabilities. The peaceful part of the game consists of conversing with other (often very eccentric) characters, uncovering details of the convoluted plot, collecting special items, and using them later. The game is quite bloody and grim, and the characters have no qualms about swearing, which led to its 17+ rating.
A very interesting gaming art project, with opinions that can vary wildly – from total delight to complete rejection. In my case, it was the former, although the first 30-40 minutes took some getting used to in terms of the protagonist’s unique movement and some other gameplay quirks.
