Guitar Hero III – Legends of Rock ROM Description
Guitar Hero 3 on PS2 is still a good Guitar Hero game in every aspect. It has everything you expect in the series with some new modes, the core gameplay is still really great and competitive.
The key thing about Guitar Hero 3 is that from a gameplay perspective, it hasn’t changed much compared to previous mechanics. You still have the guitar with five frets and a strum bar; you still try to hit the notes on time to complete levels. There are some subtle differences, like the game tracking your note streaks as you play and the hammer-ons and pull-offs being a bit easier this time. Apart from that, there is no big gameplay difference, except the songs are much harder than in previous versions.
Guitar Hero III is extremely difficult but has many great songs, arguably the best tracklist ever in the series. The game uses the same basic career progression mechanism as previous versions but at the same time, the developers have added short animated scenes to try to give some context to the whole story.
The game introduces very attractive boss fights, where you battle legendary guitarists like Slash and Tom Morello in small battles using the Battle mechanics. A pretty good addition to the series is online play. The Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions are all supported online. You can join basic matches, and on Wii and 360, you can play with friends. Of course, this mode won’t work if you play on an emulator.
Guitar Hero 3 is still very fun but not necessarily the best starting point for the series if you haven’t played these games before. The extreme difficulty can make you frustrated but once you grasp the core mechanics of the game, you’ll enjoy it. At the same time, the game is still very fun, with a long and amazing tracklist, and some additions in gameplay modes. If you love Guitar Hero, this is a no-brainer choice. And if you haven’t played, you should at least try it now on your PS2 emulator.
