Extermination ROM Description
Extermination – a survival horror game developed by Deep Space, published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and released on PS2 in June 2001.
Extermination begins with a group of special forces marines flying to Antarctica in response to an SOS signal from a secret research facility. You control Dennis Riley, a new member of the Marines, who parachutes with his teammate Roger to find out what’s happening.
At first, the place seemed abandoned, with the facilities turned off and noul in sight. But not long after, things started to turn for the worse. Dennis’s friend appears to be infected with a mysterious virus, and Dennis suddenly has to save the world from extinction.
This is a 2001 survival horror game in the truest sense. Not only is it similar to Resident Evil in terms of plot, but it’s also everything you’d expect from a weird game. It would be best to move through the facilities looking for items to open doors and fighting infected people and creatures. The difficulty comes from limited resources, and even the game save system can only be used when there is enough power in the portable battery.
The game has some additions compared to Resident Evil, such as running and climbing mechanics. You can climb over objects, jump across gaps, and swing over edges. The game also features weapon customization, where you can mount assault rifles with different scopes, flashlights, secondary firing options, and more. You have two health bars, one that decreases when attacked and one that increases each time you are hit by an infected. If the infection rate reaches 100%, the health bar will drop sharply, and you slowly lose the remaining health, as if poisoned.
You can use healing items to fight infections, and there are stations in the game that can cure them completely. The infection rate is an interesting mechanic in the game because it creates situations where it’s best to run instead of fighting enemies.
In short, Extermination for PS2 is an excellent example of how horror games were made at that time, combining all the necessary elements for a perfect playing experience. You can easily download its ROM file via the link below.
