The game is set in San Andreas in 1992. This area includes three cities: Los Santos (based on Los Angeles), San Fierro (based on San Francisco), and Las Venturas (based on Las Vegas).

The story revolves around criminal Carl “CJ” Johnson, a Grove Street Families gang member. He returned from Liberty City to his hometown of Los Santos after learning that his mother was assassinated. Throughout the game, CJ participates in dangerous missions, explores the criminal world, and gradually uncovers the conspiracy behind his mother’s death.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is considered one of the best games in the GTA series. It became the standard for sandbox games released later.
