Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is an action-adventure game that was developed and published by Midway Games and released on the PS2 and Xbox in September 2005. Although the gory marketing for this title did cause some controversy at the time, Shaolin Monks went on to sell over 1 million copies and received fairly positive reviews.

Shaolin Monks is actually one of several spin-off games from the popular fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat, focused on two of Earth’s mightiest warriors, Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Everything takes place right after the first Mortal Kombat tournament, where the Outworld realm was defeated.

The evil sorcerer of Outworld, Shang Tsung, then turns into one of the sorest losers ever and decides to break the rules of the tournament by leading an invasion of Earthrealm by attacking the home of our main characters, the Wu Shi Academy. After defending the Academy from the attack, our heroes then pursue Shang Tsung and his allies to the Outworld in hopes of preventing the realm from being conquered.
