Shortly after the events of Mario 1, Peach returned to the Mushroom Kingdom, all thanks to Mario and Luigi. But then Bowser sent his children to other countries of the Mushroom world. Peach is kidnapped again. The Mario Bros. duo must save the Mushroom world, turn the seven kings back into human form, retrieve the seven magic wands, and bring back Princess Peach safely.

What I like about this plot is that it heightens the tension level that was already very high in the previous seasons; now, we have to save the princess, the whole world, and the seven kings. There is a fan theory that the entire game is a play. No matter how you understand the plot, it’s still tense and interesting at the same time, which is the ideal of every game plot.

Imagine Nintendo taking all the great things from previous Marios, stuffing them into a blender, and filtering out the bad stuff. That is Mario 3. There is almost nothing to criticize about this game. It’s adorable. One of the best aspects is the world around which Mario traverses. Each world has a theme, which is used wonderfully at the respective levels and worlds.

Visually, the game looks really good for an NES title. Other NES games have better graphics, but Mario 3 looks great. Mario 2’s visuals have greatly improved, but Mario 3 is still ahead. In terms of music, the game has memorable tunes like Fairy Fountain, which is crazy. You will love the Overworld tunes and almost all the tunes in the game, especially the horn sound.

Super Mario Bros 3 is the best 2D Mario game. The game is really charming and fun and offers a great experience. Ready to download it and play it once again on your NES emulator?
