Mesen Description
Mesen Emulator is a multi-system emulator available for Windows, Linux, and macOS that is free and open-source (albeit there aren’t any pre-compiled binaries for macOS yet). It can simulate the following systems: Master System/Game Gear, PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-16, SG-1000, GB/GBC, Super Famicom (SNES), Famicom (NES), Famicom Disk System (FDS), and GBA.
Mesen 2.x is the version that is presently under developed; a preview build was initially made available in 2023. The SNES/GB(C) emulation was found in a different emulator called Mesen S, although the prior Mesen 0.x branch could only simulate the NES. Although it still uses backports from the more recent branch, the Mesen Libretro core for RetroArch is currently based on the 0.x branch. We will designate the 0.x branch as Mesen 1 and the 2.x branch as Mesen 2 to avoid confusion.
Mesen is now available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. It supports NES, SNES, Game Boy (Color), Game Boy Advance, PC Engine, and SMS/Game Gear games.
