Capcom Play System 2 (1993) ROM Description
The CPS-2, also known as the CP System II (CPシステムII shīpī shisutemu tsū), is a board for arcade systems that was initially utilized by Capcom in 1993 for the purpose of Super Street Fighter II. It was the replacement to their earlier arcade hardware, which included the CP System and the Capcom Power System Changer. In 1996, the CP System III hardware took over as the successor to this hardware.
Although it was a successful system board, the previous Capcom system board, often known as the original CP System (or CPS-1), was extremely susceptible to bootleggers who replicated the games without permission. In an effort to fix the problem, Capcom utilized encryption on the program ROMs in order to prevent software piracy. This was done by taking the hardware from the CP System (which had QSound) and making only minor modifications. Because of the encryption, the system was never bootlegged until the data from the software that had not been encrypted began to become accessible.
The CP System II is made up of two distinct components: the A board, which is connected to the JAMMA harness and includes components that are shared by all CP System II games, and the B board, which is where the game itself is stored. There is a lot of similarity between the relationship between the A board and the B board and the interaction between a home video game system and a cartridge. The CP System II A and B boards are color-coded according to region, and each board may only be used with its mate that is the same color (the same color). The blue and green boards, on the other hand, can be used together. This is the only exception to this rule.
