Full Throttle ROM Description
Tim Schafer created the visual adventure game Full Throttle, which was produced by LucasArts. On April 20, 1995, the game was made available for Mac OS, Microsoft Windows, and MS-DOS. After contributing to prior LucasArts games like The Secret of Monkey Island (1990), Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge (1991), and Day of the Tentacle (1993), Schafer’s first game as project lead, chief writer, and designer was this one. The game is set in the near future and centers on Ben, the head of a biker gang, who tries to defend himself and his gang’s reputations after being falsely accused of the death of a well-liked motorcycle manufacturer. A remastered version of the game was produced by Double Fine Productions and was published in April 2017 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Complete Throttle was the ninth adventure game developed by LucasArts using their proprietary SCUMM game engine, and the eleventh overall. It included full motion video and action sequences, utilizing LucasArts’ INSANE animation engine, which was previously employed in Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire. It was the first LucasArts game only available on CD-ROM and the first to be launched for Microsoft Windows. Additionally, it brought in a contextual pie menu that allows the user to manage how they interact with people and things. Full Throttle employed a large number of professional voice actors, such as Roy Conrad as Ben, Mark Hamill as the evil Adrian Ripburger, Hamilton Camp as the aging Malcolm Corley, and Kath Soucie as Ben’s ally Maureen, in contrast to other computer games of the time that primarily relied on in-house talent for their voice acting. It was one of the few LucasArts games to feature licensed music, with tracks from San Francisco-area rock band The Gone Jackals.
