The 1997 point-and-click adventure game Blade Runner was created by Westwood Studios and released for Microsoft Windows by Virgin Interactive. The game is a “sidequel” that tells a unique tale that goes parallel to the plot of the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner and occasionally intersects with it rather than a straight copy of the movie. The game, which is set in Los Angeles in 2019 and centers on Ray McCoy, an elite investigator tasked with finding a group of deadly replicants—bioengineered androids that have been made to appear and act like humans—tells his narrative. The main character of the movie, Rick Deckard, does not have a speaking part in the game, despite the fact that a number of other characters do, with their voices provided by the original actors. Rather, he is named numerous times, seen multiple times, and his actions as they are portrayed in the movie are mentioned. Additional similarities between the movie and the original include the replication of many significant locales and speech and sequences that are closely modeled after the original. There are also soundtrack excerpts from the movie in the game.
