With new visuals and a somewhat altered art style, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition remakes the original. Modifications to the content are few and largely concern features that enhance the user experience, such as the ability to adjust the difficulty, a more refined quest tracker, and new fashion items. Among the updated features are a time trial option and several new pieces of equipment.

New to the Definitive Edition is an epilogue chapter called Future Connected that players may view whenever they choose, regardless of where they are in the main game. Shulk and Melia embark on a journey to the imperial capital of Alcamoth, where Melia holds the position of crown princess, one year after the events of the previous game. Nevertheless, the inhabitants of the city have been lured to the Bionis’ Shoulder by an evil incorporeal creature known as the Fog King, who emerged from a space-time fissure. The survivors’ community has been shattered by internal strife, and they no longer have any chance of ever reuniting with their country. Melia decides to take matters into her own hands by rallying her people and retaking the capital, demonstrating her value as the rightful heir to the crown.
