Stardew Valley is a relaxing life simulation game with so many things to do. It always has something new to unlock, the more you play the more new content you unlock and get absorbed into. This makes the game always feel like there is something to do or achieve.

Stardew Valley has one major storyline that is important no matter what you do to progress, which is repairing the town community center. Here you will meet small creatures that will ask you for help, which will unlock the ability to read their tablets. Each tablet has small bundles that require you to give them something, and in return they will give you a special item upon completion. After completing a tablet, you will unlock a new aspect of the game like the bus station, shops etc.

One of the best things about Stardew Valley is the ability to play the way you want. You can focus entirely on fishing, mining, farming, relationships, upgrading the community center, raising animals, or a combination of all. However, use your time wisely as you only have a limited amount of energy each day. Every action consumes energy, though you can recover by eating, relaxing or going to the spa. But be careful not to reach 0 energy, or you will faint and have to pay a hefty hospital bill.

The main appeal is the farming aspect. Farming in Stardew Valley isn’t too complex, it’s simply buying seeds at the start of the season, planting and watering every day, then selling back at the end of the season. In most cases, crops will die and you have to replant each season. This creates a nice plant-harvest-sell-replant cycle.

Stardew Valley utilizes some signature elements of RPG games as you can partake in mining adventures underground. The combat system in the game is built quite well and simple. It’s not a main part but more of a side adventure. Once you complete the intro questline, you can join the adventurer’s guild and start fighting your way into the depths of the mines. The deeper you go the harder the enemies and better the loot rewards.

Stardew Valley for Switch has combined the elements of RPG and simulation genres very well to create a truly engrossing game.
