From a destroyed frigate in orbit over planet Tallon IV, Intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran gets a distress transmission. Investigating shows the frigate to be a Space Pirate research vessel carrying terrible genetic experiments with the enigmatic Phazon chemical. There, Samus meets her enemy, Meta Ridley, whom she follows to the surface of Tallon IV.

She alone has to research the linked areas of the planet, uncover its sinister mysteries, and stop Phazon from causing interplanetary menace.

With upgraded graphics, audio, controls, and more, experience this highly regarded first-person adventure unlike anything before.

	Nazo: I played quite a bit into this before finding out about PrimeHack. While PrimeHack is a million times more fun for me, I will say that if you want to play the Metroid Prime games, this is a really really nice way to do it outside of that. It runs very smoothly on the Switch with no slowdowns or performance issues that I really noticed and it didn’t even seem to need (or particularly benefit) from raising clocks past stock, which is pretty impressive for a game released these days. After comparing it with the Wii version, I have to say the graphics really are nicely enhanced — not just a resolution upscale, but improved models, shaders, etc. The water alone is a gigantic improvement. Numerous effects are far nicer. They went well above and beyond the results of a mere upscaling, and I’m impressed by the comparison. I’m going to stick to PrimeHack now that I’ve found it, but if you like playing with a gamepad, this is much nicer. (That said, let me see you vault over a beetle, point down, and fire a charged shot at its soft spot on a Switch instead of dodging and relying on the locks to catch it after charging.) I’m not quite clear on all the different versions and changes that took place, but I saw a number of options in the configuration regarding cutscenes and voices. It looks like they’ve added back in content (namely voiceovers, I think) that was cut from some versions of the original games. Be sure to look at the settings if this is of interest as it’s off by default. [Feb 11, 2023]
