Sega CD Roms
The Sega CD is an additional expansion device specifically for the Sega Genesis system. It was released in Japan in 1991 and in North America in 1992. The device allowed users to add a CD-ROM to the original console to play CD games and expand hardware functionality. Sega CD offers an enhanced gaming experience while increasing storage capacity many times over than cassettes and cartridges.
The Sega CD turned the Sega Genesis into a more powerful home console and enhanced the multimedia entertainment experience, but it came at a high price. Besides, the game library was quite poor, and fierce competition from other consoles caused the system to be discontinued in 1996.
Still, it marked a milestone in the history of the gaming industry by turning consoles into multimedia entertainment machines.
