The Mario Kart series is one of Nintendo’s most important franchises. They release on almost every system and create a unique kart racing genre far from any standard. Super Mario Kart Wii was released in 2008 for the Nintendo Wii system. It had interesting motion control features to provide a truly awesome and fun gaming experience.

Super Mario Kart Wii has Grand Prix, Time Trials, Versus and Battle modes. Battle mode is where the parties are at when you can play competitively with friends. The main mode of the game is Grand Prix, where you pick a cup of 4 cc to race through, based on performance for points, and whoever has the most points wins. A good way to practice routes is Time Trials. It allows you to race against ghost data of your best previous time or Nintendo’s, and if you just want to race 4 tracks in your own order, you can play Versus.

Super Mario Kart Wii introduces a variety of unique vehicles for you to choose from. We have a total of 36 vehicles. They are divided between karts and bikes, then broken down into small, medium and large classes. Each type has different stats so you can pick a vehicle suited to your playstyle without having to try millions of combinations. Personally I prefer the curated vehicle system over the custom vehicle system.

Some vehicles are not available right away and need to be unlocked. In fact half of them are like that, and about half the characters need to be unlocked too. And they are not easy for you to unlock everything.

Over the years, Mario expanded into golf, tennis, party games and RPG genres, however Super Mario Kart remains one of the best spin-off games of the franchise. If you are looking for an old school experience where the Mario Kart games were still at the height of acclaim, Super Mario Kart Wii is a good choice.
