In 1208, thanks to post-war reparations, the Calvard Republic has enjoyed unprecedented economic growth while facing social unrest due to immigration and new government reforms. On the outskirts of the town of Edith, a young man named Van Arkride works in the Arkride Solutions office as Spriggan, a detective and bounty hunter.

One day, Van Arkride is approached by Agnès Claudel, a high school student and daughter of Calvard’s new president, Roy Grahamhart. She enlists his help in finding the Orbs called Oct-Genesis, the final creation of her late great-grandfather, Claude Epstein, one of the greatest scientists in history.

Along the way, they are joined by Feri Al-Fayed, a hunter of the Khruga tribe; Aaron Wei, an artist from Lanport; Risette Twinings, an employee of a private military company; Quatre Salicion, a student of Professor Hamilton, one of Professor Epstein’s students; Judith Ranster, a famous actress known under the pseudonym Phantom Thief Grimcat, and Bergard Zeman (Gunther Barkhorn), Van’s mentor and a Knight of the Church who was once thought to be dead.

Their search for the Oct-Genesis brings them into conflict with a terrorist group led by Gerard Dantes. Arkride’s Bureau of Solutions cooperates with other factions such as the Bracers, the government, and even the criminal organizations Ouroboros and Heiyue. Van also reunites with Elaine Auclair, his childhood friend and former lover, Bracer, and Rene Kincaid, a government clerk, his and Elaine’s childhood friend.
