The Metal Slug series has been around since 1996 when the first game was released by SNK for the Neo Geo MVS system. It’s a fast-moving shooting game in which you control fighters Marco Rossi and Tarma Roving on a mission to stop a rebel coup. It has had many sequels over the years, and Metal Slug Attack is a spin-off game released for mobile in 2016. It was re-released shortly after the recent Nintendo Direct as Metal Slug Attack Reloaded. This game is quite good and you should try it on your Switch.

Metal Slug Attack Reloaded retells the story of the first game but also takes characters and ideas from the sequels. Once again, the rebel General Morden is trying to create a new world order while Marco Rossi and Tarma Roving try to stop him. Characters from later installments such as Eri and Fiona also participate this time. There are a total of 5 factions involved in the plot with many characters interacting with each other through fixed cut scenes between chapters of the game.

Reloaded is not a scrolling shooter but essentially a basic tower defense game. You will have a base on the left side of the screen for each stage. The enemy has a base on the right. As time passes each stage, you will receive Action Points and can use them to summon units from your base to the right side of the screen and eventually attack the enemy base. If the enemy base’s health drops to 0, the phase ends. On the contrary, if your base is destroyed, you fail and have to play again.
