Final Fantasy IX ROM Description
Zidane, a member of a band of criminals who double as stage performers, and Garnet, princess of Alexandria, are the protagonists of Final Fantasy IX. Zidane and his accomplices first want to abduct Garnet from the palace where her mother resides. It doesn’t take long for them to figure out that the queen of Alexandria is planning something nefarious following the abduction. In an effort to uncover the queen’s motivation for her heinous acts, Zidane, the princess, and other characters they meet along the way decide to band together.
You may expect to see 3D models of characters, maps, and fight stages, as well as pre-rendered backdrops in specific areas and computer-generated cutscenes that propel the plot along, much as in the last Final Fantasy game. But when you look at the game as a whole, in terms of mood and gameplay, it seems more like previous iterations. Just as in Final Fantasy IV, each playable character has a fixed class (such as thief, black mage, summoner, etc.) and a set of skills that are exclusive to that class. The series’ signature active-time battle (ATB) technology is utilized in combat. In combat, up to four player-controlled characters can take part. In higher levels, the player has access to a wider cast of playable characters from which to pick.
All of a character’s weapons and armor house their talents, whether they be magical spells or resistance to specific state changes. As the player takes part in conflicts on a regular basis while wearing these items, they unlock powers. As you level up and gain experience in battle, you’ll earn ability points that you may use to level up your equipped component. Once filled, the ability remains usable even when the item that granted it is no longer in the character’s possession.
With a new name and more spotlight, the card mini-game from the last game is now known as Tetra Master. The cards are now laid out on a 4×4 grid and can now attack each other diagonally and in any of the four cardinal directions. Each card is now one-of-a-kind due to the removal of fixed stats and the introduction of a range of values and arrow placements. While regional rule variances are no more, players will have to adapt their offensive and defensive plans for each game by strategically blacking out one to five locations on the grid at the beginning of each match.
