During its Nintendo Direct event in August, Nintendo confirmed that four more classic Castlevania games would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. This is the third collection of the franchise on the Switch system, following the successful releases of Castlevania Anniversary Collection and Castlevania Advance Collection. The good news is that the game is officially released today – August 28, 2024

This collection includes ports of the original games in the series that were released on the Nintendo DS, including Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. Of these, Dawn of Sorrow is considered by us to be the best game in the series due to its good gameplay and deep story. Order of Ecclesia is not as outstanding in terms of experience as the other games, but it is one of the rarest. And finally, Portrait of Ruin isn’t as well-regarded as its two siblings, but it does have some interesting connections to Castlevania Bloodlines.

The originals were released on the Nintendo DS, a dual-screen console. So the Switch ports will need to make some changes because of this difference. Specifically, Konami converted the original games’ touchscreen mechanics into simpler button QTEs. While the gameplay experience won’t be as fun, it’s a must.

In addition to the original NDS games, this collection includes a special edition – Haunted Castle, a 1987 arcade game with a vampire theme.

Castlevania Dominus Collection has officially been released, which means that almost every 2D Castlevania game has been brought back to the Nintendo Switch. Even though these are just ports of the original game, experiencing it on a new system will definitely be fun.
