Playing Bastion on Nintendo Switch is like stepping into an isometric action RPG. The narrative takes place in the aftermath of a catastrophic event referred to as “Calamity” that decimates a metropolis named Caelondia. Silent protagonist “The Kid” (voiced by Rucks) enlists Rucks’s (double-duty as narrator and protagonist) assistance in building a refuge (Bastion). Using a wide array of combat, ranged weaponry, and unique abilities, the young player must vanquish the game’s numerous enemies. The player’s base of operations, the Bastion, may be enhanced with various structures as the game advances.

The Kid will find bits, keepsakes, and upgrades to his weaponry as he explores the globe. Characters in the Bastion can talk about mementos, which could lead to greater world knowledge. Depending on the player’s choices and the vulnerabilities of the foes, the Kid may need to swap between his two weapons and special skill, as he can only hold one at a time. For the most part, you may earn fragments—the game’s main currency—by destroying things, killing foes, or even just finding them. At a later point, the player can use them at the Bastion for enhancements and practical items.

The Kid can repair and use six buildings within the Bastion. The player may utilize the Distillery to their advantage by adding spirits (drinks) to up to 10 slots, each of which grants a different passive boost. Only one space is available to utilize initially; the remaining slots are unlocked as the Kid levels up. You may change your character’s weaponry and special abilities in the Arsenal, where you’ll find all the weapons your hero has gathered on his journeys. Once you’ve gathered the necessary upgrade materials from throughout the globe, you may take your weapons to the Forge to have them strengthened and upgraded. There are a number of tasks within the Memorial that, when finished, will grant the player more pieces. The player may use pieces to recover upgrade materials, and unlock spirits and idols in Lost-and-Found. Last but not least, the Shrine is where you can invoke the gods to make the game more challenging.

The game’s dynamic narrative is one of its standout elements. The player’s actions determine the storyline of the game. For instance, the narrator offers commentary about the occurrence when the child falls from a height.
