The plot of Alan Wake focuses on a struggling writer of the same name, who goes to the small town of Bright Falls to take a break from his career. Alan and his wife, Alice, found a small cabin where they planned to relax. After an argument between the two, Alan walked out of the cabin into the night. That’s when everything got dark.
After a series of events that seemed confusing at the time, Alan woke up to find himself alone in the driver’s seat of a crashed car. Unsure of what happened, Alan decided to find his own way back to his wife.
The good plot makes you wonder what’s really going on until the very end. The content is told very rhythmically with many fascinating moments and maintains suspense throughout. Notably, the remaster also includes two expansions that continue the story as an epilogue.
The gameplay experience in Alan Wake Remastered is great. The heavy combat mechanics are definitely the highlight. They are simple but effective! You can use the flashlight to dispel the darkness of enemies or shoot to take them down. Finding new weapons and equipment to use against the darkness truly feels like redemption, as the game presses at you from all sides with enemies that sometimes appear seemingly at random.
Alan Wake Remastered makes you forget that this is actually a remaster of a 2010 game, because it feels like a completely new game! There are a few moments where the game feels a bit dated, but those quickly fade as the plot draws you back in.
The world of Alan Wake is dark and gloomy, and sets the plot very well. Darkness often covers everything, making the environment difficult to predict what’s lurking nearby. This only adds to the tense feeling of a scary atmosphere. The graphics and character models also get a real upgrade in this remaster, with some characters even looking different than the 2010 version.
So should you play Alan Wake Remastered? Absolutely yes! This is a prime example of how to make a remaster! A strong action-packed storyline combined with engaging combat mechanics creates an experience that is definitely worth your time!
