Mario Kart DS Deluxe was developed and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS in November 2005. This game marked many changes for the racing game series as it supported online play and added many promising options.

As usual, racing is the focus of Mario Kart DS Deluxe. The traditional engine classes return with 50cc being the slowest and easiest, and 150cc and Mirror being the most difficult. In the 50cc engine option, the gameplay speed is the slowest, suitable for those who want to explore the mechanics on the track. Fortunately, the speed and action increase in the higher engine classes.

Scattered across the courses are item boxes. You just need to drive into them to randomly receive an item that can be used against opponents. All the classic items are back, and new items include Blooper, Bullet Bill, and Triple Banana.

Mario Kart DS has many strengths beyond being a handheld game. It has the best car handling in the series, adds many new game modes and features, supports online multiplayer, and while the character lineup is reduced compared to Double Dash, Shy Guy is still an exclusive character.

Another great thing about Mario Kart DS Deluxe is that you can play Battle mode in single-player mode. It has two modes: the classic Balloon Battle mode and Shine Runners. The gameplay mechanics in Balloon Battle remain unchanged except now you can inflate extra balloons by holding a button or blowing into the mic (of course, this function doesn’t work if you play the game on an emulator).

In Shine Runners, the goal is to collect more Shine Sprites than your opponents, and getting hit will make you lose a Shine Sprite. It also takes place in an elimination format. After a period of time, the opponent with the least Shine Sprites will be eliminated. Battle mode has 6 tracks, 2 of which come from previous games.
