The 7th Dragon series is a unique RPG game released in 2009 in Japan on the DS. The first version is only sold in the domestic market. 7th Dragon III Code: VFD is the final installment in this series and the good news is that Sega has added more language packs and released it globally.

Game Setting and Story

Code: VFD takes place in the year 2100; dragons invade Earth and destroy humanity. You, the main character, must ally with the game company NANs Enterprises to destroy dragons by becoming a Dragon Hunter.

Code: VFD revolves around character customization, combat, and skills. You need to create a party to start your adventure. Each team consists of 3 members, and you completely create them yourself based on character class. There are eight classes: Knight, Mage, Samurai, Agent, etc. Each class is different and fresh compared to the usual rigid roles.

As for skills, you earn SP points to unlock and upgrade skills in the skills menu, not when leveling up like most RPGs. The downside is that when you first play, you have too much SP and want to learn all the skills possible. So, focus on a few skills that suit your playing style.

When going through towns or caves, you will encounter dragons and random battles triggered by moving. On the top screen is the battle, and the bottom screen shows the team members. After a few turns, you can summon your team to provide support, for example, curing negative status. When all team members have enough energy bars, you can summon all six people to fight and choose actions for each person.

The graphics are vibrant and detailed, bringing life to the settings and creatures you meet along the way. The music perfectly complements the action, adding a layer of excitement during battles.
