Laura Bow: The Dagger of Amon Ra ROM Description

A year subsequent to the events shown in The Colonel’s Bequest, a New York newspaper recruits Laura Bow, a recent college grad, to pen an article on the ancient Egyptian dagger that the local Leyendecker Museum has just purchased as an exhibit. Nevertheless, a murder occurs, the dagger is taken, and Laura, who had requested permission to investigate, is confined with the other visitors during the celebration of the museum’s new section. This lays the setup for a string of killings, and Laura must identify their perpetrator.

While there are more opportunities to acquire and use inventory items in the sequel, The Dagger of Amon Ra follows a similar gameplay style to The Colonel’s Bequest, with an emphasis on exploration and clue-gathering rather than puzzle-solving. The museum serves as the setting for the entirety of the game, with the exception of the opening act. The player guides Laura around each area while interacting with individuals to learn more about them and their goals. When you do specific things or move to different areas, the game’s clock will advance. There may be times and places where certain events and information are only accessible. Laura will be required to answer a number of questions regarding the murders as she makes a case before the coroner at the end of the game. The player’s ability to deduce the answers to all the questions is dependent on his playing style, the clues he finds, and his deductive abilities.

Players will not be able to use verb-object instructions to interact with the surroundings but rather use an icon-based interface, similar to other modern Sierra adventures. The “Ask” command also gives the player the option to choose a topic from a list. Full speech, including narration, is available on the CD version.
