King’s Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow ROM Description

Prince Alexander of Daventry has been reclusive for months, consumed by thoughts of Princess Cassima, whom he encountered during his imprisonment in the last game. When he finally snaps, he charters a ship to find the fabled Land of the Green Isles, which is said to be situated at the very tip of the Earth. In the end, after months of seeking, he finds the island kingdom. Unfortunately, a sudden storm destroys the ship, leaving him as the sole survivor. Still, he quickly learns that the monarch and queen have died, that war looms over the Green Isles, and that the royal vizier may even have Princess Cassima, whom he loves dearly, taken captive.

A third-person puzzle adventure game, King’s Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow, follows in the footsteps of its predecessors. In order to save the Isles, Alexander must traverse four enchanted islands in the Land, each with its own mythology and stories, and meet both friendly and hostile natives along the way. Just as with the previous King’s Quest games, the Prince might die from a careless decision or slip-up if Alexander isn’t cautious. While most of the puzzles may be done in a straight line, there are two branching pathways that lead to the boss battle later on. A point-and-click interface with icons representing verbs (“walk,” “examine,” “use,” “talk,” etc.) is used to accomplish activities, similar to the previous game.

There are full-speech options, a pre-rendered intro, the Girl in the Tower theme tune, and both DOS and Windows versions of the game on the CD-ROM.
