Part shoot ’em up, part side-scrolling action platformer, Velocity 2X for the PlayStation Vita combines some of the best gameplay elements of the past and injects new breakthrough ideas into a space shooter game.

The game has stunning graphics – a beautiful art style with a cel-shaded look. The game also has wonderful particle effects and explosions; double-dashing looks really cool. This game is a masterpiece visually.

The storyline is quite vague. You’re trying to save some people from something to help them build a machine. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on because the game moves so fast and is so engaging.

What’s really impressive about Velocity 2X is its ability to combine two different gameplay styles into one coherent experience seamlessly. The ability to instantly switch from vertical shoot ’em up to side-scrolling action platforming is amazing. The gameplay is very fast-paced and kinetic, with very little filler. Some puzzles involve branching paths, but most of the time, you move forward and never look back.
